Type a word and the card fills itself in
Add the words you actually need: from a class, a trip or your job. Type one and our dictionary finds the translation, the article, a picture, native audio and an example sentence.
Your words then come back on the same spaced-repetition schedule as your lessons.
- Free
- ~6,000 dictionary words per language
- Native audio on every card
- Type a Spanish word, for example “maleta”.
- The dictionary fills in the translation “suitcase”, the article form “la maleta”, a picture, native audio and an example sentence: “Él lleva una maleta grande.” (He carries a large suitcase.).
- Tap Add Card. The card joins the deck and the counter shows how many cards you've added.
Real entries from our Spanish dictionary. Tap the speaker to hear the word.
Adding a word takes a few seconds
-
Type the word
Type it in the language you are learning, or in your own language. Flashcardly looks it up as you go.
-
The dictionary fills in the rest
If the word is in our dictionary you get the translation, a picture and native audio, and the example sentence in both languages. For gendered languages it shows how the word will be taught, like la maleta.
-
Add Card
Edit anything you like, then tap Add Card. The next card starts straight away, and the counter shows how many you have added.
A dictionary our team has checked
Behind the add-card screen sits a dictionary of about 6,000 words per language. Each entry comes with a picture, native audio, an example sentence and grammar notes, and our team has reviewed them.
A word that isn't in the dictionary still works. You get a suggested translation (or type your own), and the card gets native audio within about a minute of adding it.
The same dictionary checks the words in AI decks, which is why most of those cards arrive with pictures and audio too.
Or start from a premade deck
The Discover tab has ready-made word lists for your language pair. Add a whole deck in one tap, or open it and pick individual words to add to a deck of your own.

Questions people ask
Can I make my own decks on the free plan?
Yes. Creating decks, adding words and reviewing them with spaced repetition are free. The free plan includes 50 dictionary lookups a day when you add words, and Pro raises that to 500.
What if my word isn’t in the dictionary?
You can still add it. Flashcardly suggests a translation, or you type your own, and the card gets native audio within about a minute.
How big can a deck be?
Up to 1,000 cards per deck, and up to 100 decks.
Do my own words get spaced repetition too?
Yes. Once you study a card it enters the same six Leitner boxes as your lesson words, with the same review intervals.
Can I play the practice games with my own decks?
That part is Pro. On the free plan you study your decks as flashcards; Pro adds Word Match, Audio Match, Sentence Builder and Type It Out for them.
