Delete your Flashcardly account
Deze juridische teksten zijn alleen in het Engels beschikbaar; de Engelse versie is bindend.
You can close your Flashcardly account and delete your personal data at any time. This page explains exactly how, what gets deleted, what we must keep, and how long it takes. Flashcardly is operated by Mindflow Labs s.r.o. Required by Google Play’s account-deletion policy, GDPR right to erasure (Art. 17), and Apple App Store guideline 5.1.1(v); made available without a login per those requirements.
Option 1 — In the app (fastest)
- Open Flashcardly and tap the Profile tab (bottom-right of the screen).
- Tap the gear / Settings icon in the top-right corner of the Profile screen.
- Scroll to the bottom of Settings, to the “Danger Zone” section.
- Tap the red “Delete Account & Data” button.
- Confirm twice: tap “Delete Everything”, then on the final prompt tap “Confirm Delete”.
- Your account and all learning data are deleted immediately, and you’re signed out.
This is the fastest path and requires no email or waiting. The deletion is permanent and takes effect at once — there is no grace period and no undo. (Settings also has a subdued “Delete account via web” link, which simply opens this page.)
Option 2 — By email (if you’ve lost access to the app)
If you can’t sign in, can’t install the app, or prefer email:
Email support@flashcardly.io from the address on your Flashcardly account. Subject: Delete my account Body: include your display name if you remember it.
We’ll verify the request (usually a reply from the registered email is enough) and confirm deletion within 5 business days.
What gets deleted
When you delete your account, we remove everything tied to your identity, immediately and permanently:
- Your account email and display name
- Your sign-in identity — the link to your Apple or Google account. If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke Flashcardly’s “Sign in with Apple” authorization on Apple’s side, so Flashcardly no longer appears under your Apple ID.
- All learning data: XP, level, streaks, achievements, daily and weekly goals
- Your spaced-repetition (Leitner) review state for every word you’ve studied, and your “words to practice” lists
- Custom decks and all the cards inside them
- Lesson, practice, and review session history and daily progress
- Push-notification tokens and in-app prompt/reminder state
- Word reports and feedback you’ve sent us
- Usage counters (translations, AI grammar explanations, generated audio)
- Your analytics profile and events held by our analytics provider (PostHog)
- Your subscriber record held by our subscription-analytics provider (RevenueCat)
The underlying authentication record (which holds your email) is destroyed as part of the same request, so the email becomes free to register again.
What we have to keep (and why)
Accounting records — up to 10 years
Czech accounting law (Zákon č. 563/1991 Sb. o účetnictví, §31) requires us to keep records of invoices and subscription transactions for 5 to 10 years, depending on the document type. These records contain:
- Invoice number, date, amount
- Your country of residence (for VAT purposes, if applicable)
- A minimally-identifying reference to your account (typically an internal user ID and your email, to the extent needed to tie the invoice to the transaction)
They are retained in an accounting system separate from the live product database and are accessible only to our accountant and tax authorities.
Anonymous, aggregated analytics
Analytics events that are no longer linked to you (e.g., “a user in Germany completed a Spanish lesson on Tuesday”) may remain in aggregate statistics. These cannot be used to re-identify you.
Encrypted backups
Your data is removed from our live systems immediately, but recent encrypted backup snapshots may still contain a copy until they age out of rotation (see the table below). Backups are never used to restore a deleted account; they exist only for disaster recovery and are overwritten on schedule.
Legal holds
If we’re subject to a legal hold — for example, an ongoing investigation, litigation, or regulatory request — we may keep relevant data until the hold is released. If this applies to your account at the time of deletion, we’ll tell you.
How long it takes
| Step | Timing |
|---|---|
| Account and access removed | Immediate |
| Live / production data erased | Immediate |
| Copies in encrypted backups | Rotated out within 90 days |
| Analytics profile & events (PostHog) | Queued for deletion at request time |
| Accounting records deleted | After their statutory retention period expires (up to 10 years) |
Subscriptions
If you have an active Flashcardly Pro subscription, deleting your Flashcardly account does not automatically cancel the subscription — because billing is handled by Apple or Google, not us.
To stop being billed:
- iOS: Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → Flashcardly → Cancel.
- Android: Google Play → Account → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Flashcardly → Cancel.
Do this before deleting your Flashcardly account. If you forget, you may continue to be charged until the next renewal — in that case, request a refund from Apple or Google per their policies.
Having second thoughts?
If you just want a break, you don’t have to delete the account.
- Turn off daily notifications in Settings → Notifications
- Uninstall the app; your data stays safe on our servers and your account is waiting when you come back.
If you’ve decided to delete, we understand and wish you the best with your language learning — wherever that takes you.
