Cookie and Storage Policy
Questi testi legali sono disponibili solo in inglese; fa fede la versione inglese.
1. About this policy
This page explains what cookies and similar storage technologies we use on the flashcardly.io website and why. It’s a companion to our Privacy Policy — that policy covers all personal data processing, while this one zooms in on cookies.
If you use our mobile app, cookies don’t apply — the app uses local device storage, which we describe at the bottom of this page.
2. What are cookies?
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device. Cookies let sites remember things like your theme preference or whether you’re signed in. Similar technologies include local storage and session storage, which also save small amounts of data on your device.
You can block, delete, or manage cookies in any modern browser. Doing so will not prevent you from using the flashcardly.io website — see below.
3. What we use
We keep this list short on purpose.
3.1 Strictly necessary (no consent required)
These let the website work.
| Name | Type | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
theme | Local storage | Us (flashcardly.io) | Remembers your light/dark theme choice | Persistent — cleared when you clear site data |
ffc-notify-email | Local storage | Us (flashcardly.io) | Remembers that you joined the pre-launch waitlist (and the email you used). The form that set it is no longer in use, so it only exists if you signed up before launch. Stays only in your browser | Persistent — cleared when you clear site data |
3.2 Analytics (cookieless — no consent required)
We use PostHog EU on the website in cookieless mode to count page views, track which sections users engage with, and measure basic conversion events (for example: how many people who land on / click the App Store badge).
Why this is cookieless:
- No cookies are set.
- Your IP address is not stored. PostHog’s EU-region service processes it only for coarse geolocation during the request, then discards it.
- Session identification uses a short-lived token that doesn’t persist between visits.
- The data is aggregate and cannot be linked back to you.
Because the analytics are anonymous, cookieless, and based on our legitimate interest in improving the service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), we don’t ask for consent. If you’d still rather not be counted, enable “Do Not Track” in your browser — we honour it.
3.3 Marketing and advertising
We don’t use any. No remarketing pixels, ad-network tags, Meta Pixel, Google Ads tags, TikTok Pixel, or similar.
If that ever changes — and it might, if we start running paid ads — we’ll update this page, show a consent banner with granular controls, and only set those cookies after you say yes.
4. Your choices
4.1 Clearing cookies
All modern browsers let you clear cookies and local storage in settings. Clearing theme resets your theme to the system default on your next visit; clearing ffc-notify-email simply makes the waitlist form reappear (it doesn’t remove you from the list — email us for that).
4.2 Browser-level controls
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data
4.3 Do Not Track
We honour the browser “Do Not Track” signal for analytics. Enable it in your browser’s privacy settings.
5. Mobile app — local storage
The Flashcardly mobile app uses your device’s local storage to cache:
- Your lesson progress and Leitner box state (so the app works offline)
- Downloaded audio files (to avoid re-fetching)
- Your session token (so you don’t sign in every time you open the app)
This data is local to your device and is not shared with us beyond the normal account sync described in our Privacy Policy. You can clear it by signing out of the app or uninstalling it.
6. Changes to this policy
If we add a new category of cookie or change how we handle analytics, we’ll update this page and the effective date at the top. For material changes — especially if we add marketing cookies — we’ll show a consent banner the next time you visit.
